What is HIFU?
High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatment is a non-invasive procedure that utilises focused ultrasound energy to target specific layers of tissue beneath the skin’s surface. During the treatment, the ultrasound energy heats up the targeted tissue, which triggers a natural healing response, leading to the production of new collagen and elastin fibres. This process gradually improves the skin’s elasticity and overall texture, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
HIFU treatments are also referred to as ‘non-surgical facelift’ or ‘lunchtime facelift’, esteemed for its coveted lifting, firming, and tightening advantages.
At Eden Skin Clinic, we proudly present the Focus Dual system. Our HIFU machine precisely targets and firms sagging skin, combating the signs of ageing and gravitational effects, granting you the ability to sculpt, lift and firm.
Our HIFU Face and Neck Treatment
One of the key benefits of HIFU treatment is its ability to target multiple layers of the skin, including the deep dermis and the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) layer, which is typically targeted during surgical facelift procedures.
HIFU treatments are generally well-tolerated and require no downtime, making it a popular choice for individuals seeking non-invasive skin rejuvenation. Results typically become more apparent over the following weeks and months as the collagen-building process continues, with many individuals experiencing gradual improvements in skin tone and texture.
Overall, HIFU treatment offers a safe, effective, and non-invasive solution for addressing signs of ageing and achieving firmer, more youthful-looking skin.
Initial HIFU Facial Consultation
At your initial high intensity focused ultrasound facial consultation at our Wimbledon Clinic, our skincare experts will examine your skin to put together a treatment plan and decide if this is the best treatment for you. We typically recommend a course of 1-3 treatments which are carried out at around 6 week intervals.
It is important to avoid Botox and filler for four weeks before treatment as well as sun exposure and fake tan one week prior. We also advise that you stop using topical retinols, acids or manual exfoliants 7 days before treatment.
Please arrive at your appointment with minimal makeup. We prefer if you come makeup free. However, we do understand that not all clients are comfortable doing so.
During Treatment
Before HIFU treatments at our Wimbledon central London clinic, the skin will be prepped and sterilised. No anaesthetic is used as the treatment as you will experience mild to little discomfort.
Once we have prepared your skin, we use a white pencil to grid the skin into sections. A small amount of clear ultrasound gel is applied to allow the hand piece to glide over the skin. You will feel a light pop sensation and might experience a feeling of warmth and aching like you would experience after a session at the gym.
Once treatment is complete the skin will be wiped over and all aftercare products will be applied including SPF.
After HIFU Treatment
After your treatment is complete, aftercare products will be applied to the skin, including an SPF. Due to the non-invasive nature of HIFU face treatments, there is virtually no downtime. You may experience slight redness following the treatment, and a small percentage of our clients do experience minor swelling, tingling or tenderness. These symptoms are mild and temporary.
It is important that after treatment, you do not touch, rub or pick your skin. You can cleanse, apply moisturiser/SPF, and even makeup as normal after treatment, however, you must not use retinols, acids or exfoliators for a minimum of seven days. If you have any questions after your HIFU treatment, please do not hesitate to ask!

What is a HIFU Facial?
The HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) Facial is a non-invasive skin tightening treatment that uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production, resulting in firmer, lifted skin. It is an effective treatment for reducing signs of aging, such as wrinkles and sagging, without the need for surgery.
How many HIFU facial sessions are needed?
HIFU non-surgical facelift sessions are scheduled every 6 weeks, with typically 1 to 3 treatments advised for optimal outcomes. Facial contouring results will usually take anywhere up to 6 months. Top-up sessions may be conducted as needed, usually occurring only once annually.
Is there any downtime with a Focus Dual HIFU treatment?
Because HIFU face treatments are non-invasive, downtime is minimal. While some clients may notice temporary redness and a small percentage might experience mild swelling, these effects are mild and short-lived. Clients can resume their regular activities immediately afterward without any special recovery requirements. It’s no wonder HIFU has been dubbed the “lunchtime facelift” for its convenience and effectiveness.
What does a HIFU skin treatment feel like?
Once we have prepared your skin, we use a white pencil to grid the skin into sections. A small amount of clear ultrasound gel is applied to allow the hand piece to glide over the skin. You will feel a light pop sensation and might experience a feeling of warmth and aching like you would experience after a session at the gym.
What is the aftercare for a HIFU facial?
The main things to consider after your HIFU face treatment is that the skin may appear pink or red in colour and may feel warm to touch, avoid any strenuous activities, or any contact with heat such as saunas, excessively hot showers/ baths or steam rooms. Avoid the use of any active products such as AHA’s, BHA’s and Retinols for at least 7 days. For a full list of the pre and post aftercare instructions please view our aftercare advice page.
Who is suitable for HIFU facial treatment?
HIFU face and neck treatments are suitable for all skin types, however sometimes callipers may be used within your consultation to determine suitability for treatment.
Your safety at Eden Skin Clinic is our first priority, it is always necessary to speak to one of our therapists if you feel there may be a condition or illness that may prevent you from having treatment.

Is the HIFU Facial painful?
The HIFU Facial is generally well-tolerated by most clients, though some may experience slight discomfort during the procedure. The sensation is often described as a mild prickling or heat under the skin, but any discomfort is temporary and typically resolves after the session.
Does HIFU facelift require anaesthetic?
Typically we tend to not use topical anaesthetics as we prefer a healthy blood supply to the skin. The treatment itself is manageable but some individuals may experience some discomfort around the lower part of the face, which is usually short lived.
You can however apply a topical form of anaesthetic at home prior to your treatment should you wish to do so.
Do I need a patch test for a HIFU facial?
No, a patch test for this treatment is not required.
