What is Oily Skin?
Oily skin is a common skin type that can be difficult to manage. It is characterised by an overproduction of sebum, the natural oil the skin produces — the oily shine results from this extra sebum, especially in the T-zone. Oily skin can lead to clogged pores, blackheads, milia, acne, sebaceous hyperplasia and other skin issues. Too little sebum can lead to dry and cracked skin. Fortunately, there are many ways to manage oily skin and keep it looking healthy and glowing.
The causes of oily skin include genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. While you cannot necessarily change your skin type, you can take steps to reduce the oiliness of the skin.
Everyone, including men and women, could be susceptible to this skin problem. Puberty is typically when it first manifests. It’s estimated that up to 75% of teenagers between the age of 15 and 20 have oily skin. Men typically create more sebum due to higher amounts of testosterone, but women’s sebum production increases each month due to hormonal changes brought on by ovulation. Sebum production may also arise during the pregnancy cycle.

How Should I Care For Oily Skin?
Oily skin is more common than you think. The key is identifying the underlying cause and sorting a treatment/skincare plan accordingly. A well-considered skincare routine could help refresh your complexion and stop excess sebum building up.
If you suffer from oily skin, you must identify and use the right skincare products, including face wash, makeup removers and your additional skin care products such as, serums, moisturiser and SPF. Another aspect is ingredients; avoiding certain ingredients in your daily skincare routine is necessary for different skin types. If you use the wrong products, you could exacerbate the concern further that you are experiencing. Here at Eden Skin Clinic we offer professional advice and can help guide you through our medically grade AlumierMD products to help maintain a fantastic complexion in between treatments.
