What is Radio Frequency Microneedling (RFM)?
Radio frequency microneedling, also known as RF microneedling or fractional microneedling, is often referred to as a ‘non-surgical facelift’ due to its impressive collagen-inducing and firming results. The Focus Dual® machine offers a combination of microneedling and radio frequency energy with vacuum technology. With its innovative vacuum technology, the Focus Dual® is the only device to give increased precision, ensuring safer and more precise treatments. This is particularly beneficial for treating delicate areas including skin around the eye and upper lip.
RF microneedling induces thermal trauma to stimulate neocollagenesis in the deep layers of the skin. This combination offers a dual effect on various textural and ageing concerns such as fine lines, laxity, acne scars and open pores.
The penetration of stabilised radio frequency microneedles is used to create tiny puncture wounds in the skin, initiating the wound healing response. By integrating vacuum suction technology, radiofrequency energy can penetrate deep into the dermis, enhancing treatment effectiveness.
With superfine microneedles measuring only 0.16mm in diameter, thinner than a human hair, the Focus Dual® RF microneedling offers a safer treatment option with minimal bleeding and discomfort compared to other devices. It has a 25 pin microneedle tip to allow treatment for both small and large areas, with adjustable needle depths to target various skin concerns efficiently. This allows precise energy delivery to both superficial and deep dermal layers.
Initial RF Microneedling Consultation
At your initial Radio Frequency Microneedling consultation at our clinic in Wimbledon, our skincare experts will examine your skin to put together a treatment plan and decide if this is the best treatment for you. Depending on your skin concerns, we may recommend microneedling every 4-6 weeks for 3-6 treatments.
It is important to avoid Botox and filler for four weeks before treatment as well as sun exposure and fake tan one week prior. We also advise that you stop using topical retinols, acids, or manual exfoliants 7 days before treatment.
Please arrive at your appointment with minimal makeup. We prefer if you come makeup free. However, we do understand that not all clients are comfortable doing so.
During Treatment
Immediately prior to your radio frequency microneedling treatment at our Wimbledon central London clinic, your skin will be prepped and sterilised. No anaesthetic is used, as the treatment is relatively quick with little discomfort.
Needle depth, radio frequency energy, and vacuum suction varies depending on your skin concerns and response. For different treatment areas, we may recommend different depths and passes. It is possible that shedding of the skin may occur 3-7 days after the first treatment, but everyone is different. Most clients will experience a warm tingling sensation that typically fades after the first 24-48 hrs. Once treatment is complete, the skin will be wiped over and all aftercare products will be applied, including SPF.
After RF Microneedling Treatment
After your treatment is complete, aftercare products will be applied to the skin, including an SPF. Skin will initially be pink or red and can feel like a mild sunburn. This hot and tight feeling can last up to 48 hours after treatment, but is completely normal.
It is important that after treatment, you do not touch, rub or pick your skin. No cleansing or perfumed products are to be used for 12-48 hours after, and you must not use retinols, acids or exfoliators for a minimum of seven days.
When you leave the clinic, it is important that no hair or clothing touches the treated area. We recommend using a clean pillowcase and towel when you arrive home. A light cleanser and SPF must also be used; your skin care specialist will advise you on which products are best.
